Love...

With respect, allow me to offer up this posit. I submit to you, none of us truly know love. We all use this word casually in conversation not really taking the time to grasp the true essence of love. The word love is the most misunderstood word in our language. Our love becomes a dispensed commodity which we offer up to those whom we deem deserving. We believe ourselves capable of offering unconditional love to our children our spouse and nuclear family. Do we really offer this small group unconditional love? By example, if your brother kills your parents would you still offer up love and compassion. In my own life, I had a falling out with my sister whom I perceived at the time to have grievously offended me and my child. Even though I had transcended the affront, it took many more years before I formally reconciled this issue with her. If your wife cheats on you or your husband beats you can you still offer love. Of course it may be necessary to dispatch with the relationship, however, can this be done from a perspective of love. We perceive our love to be true, is it?
How then can we find in our heart true love? Is it possible? The answer to both these questions is an emphatic YES.

Please take a moment, reflect on this issue.

In favour of initiating discourse, if I may offer up consideration of this important query. The first step is to afford " yourself " unconditional love. Stop judging your actions, understand that you are doing your best with the tools you have. Give yourself the same level of compassion you offer children. We never feel anger to the child who attempts to touch the burner of a stove. We happily offer compassion to our children, we know they are learning and in doing so they will have to make mistakes. We fail to see that we too are children, at least from the perspective of gnosis. None of us are so arrogant to believe we know everything. Why is it we are more than prepared to feel guilt and condemnation for our actions which we falsely perceive to be in contrast with a self image of required perfection? Be honest, how often do you allow your ego to make you feel inadequate? The monkey brain plays out the rigors of right and wrong good and bad thus infusing our solace with fear and guilt. I am not rich enough to deserve love. I am not worthy because I am not as good as the neighbor I admire. I am not handsome enough, not smart enough. I am certainly not perfect, therefore I am less deserving than the brother who is more accomplished. Why can't I lose weight? Why do I have to live in misery? Will I ever become the human I want to be?

We must look at such thoughts and see them for the illusion they truly are. Oneness affords us the grace to live a life content that we are the ONE, the everyONE. Truth can only be found in the understanding that we are here to experience exactly that which our soul needs. The beggar, the thief and the undesirables are all here to experience these lessons, lessons from which they are able to truly understand compassion in other incarnations. People, we are the beggar and the king. I am you and you are I, there are no exceptions. From the platform of God SELF we can be gentle and compassionate with ourselves. This gnosis of seeing the child in each soul means that we may release the fear of need and the guilt associated with lack. You are truly rich beyond your wildest dreams, it is only illusion emphasised by ego which keeps peace from your heart.
Once you can truly love yourself as the Atman it is a short step to loving the brother you deem wretched. There is no good or bad, there is no right or wrong, there is only choice and all choice without exception is sacred and valid. Gaia also has her needs, she may offer up earthquakes, tornadoes, floods and all sorts of disaster. We see these events as terrible but again we are mistaken. The victims of tragedy, the victims of atrocity are all self selected endings to souls which have completed their mission. From this perspective we can live our life with grace, we can therefore accept the "isness" of all experience. Ego illusions of death, birth, space and time are the vehicles by which our pain can manifest.
Finally there is the true grasp of the interconnectedness of the universe. Again there is only the ONE the perfect expression of Godly manifestation. When we commune with the all we can release the maya. Fear slips back into the world of illusion locked up where it belongs, the key tossed aside.
I too live in fear, I too fall victim to illusion. However, I have experienced the light which patiently waits for me to wake up. For a short time I have basked in the glory of Oneness, in doing so I have developed a burning desire for gnosis. I am slowly stepping out of darkness and I can tell you the golden dawn is magnificent beyond imagination. The path to light (Oneness) is the only chance we have to truly define LOVE. Love without condition is the only true expression of self, all else is illusion. As the years pass I find myself deeper in love with myself my wife and all others. Moreover I am finding in my heart the capacity to remain compassionate with my child self. True love still waits on the horizon but at least I can define what false love is. In the words of the great Martin Luther King " I have a dream " a dream that one day we may all experience true unconditional love. Please when you find yourself in judgment of self or others stop, Look deep into your heart, see if these feelings and thoughts benefit you. Be kind, accept your child self as the seeker and afford the seeker compassion and love UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

Namaste, love conquers fear.

  1. yes, love of self comes first. I have had it backwards my whole life - attempting to love others when I didn't yet love myself is an impossible task. No wonder I lived in so much pain for so long.

Not until I can recognize and love the God-spirit in me can I see and love it in others and it is at this point, as you said, when I see that this spirit in me and in you are one in the same, which makes us all one...turns the "we" into "I", connects us all into one being - separated only by our physical body in a physical world constrained by time and space - a temporal environment that I believe does not continue after our physical body perishes.

Thus, when our body dies the spirit lives on in a way not constrained by time and space and when I am able to connect my spirit with this truth, I feel peace. A peace which unfortunately is difficult to maintain because of the constant input from the physical world.

One of my favorite quotes is: We are spiritual beings having a human experience, not human beings having a spiritual experience.

What do you think of this quote?

Thanks for your post. This concept is difficult to grasp let alone explain, however, you did a great job of it here.

  2. This will need to be in two posts:

Christopher, I'm taking a different approach to your post. It may clear up differences between our perspectives or may confirm that we haven't any differences, which is what I believe.

    First:

"What a power is love! It is the most wonderful, the greatest of all living powers.

Love gives life to the lifeless. Love lights a flame in the heart that is cold. Love brings hope to the hopeless and gladdens the hearts of the sorrowful.

In the world of existence there is indeed no greater power than the power of love. When the heart of man is aglow with the flame of love, he is ready to sacrifice all—even his life. In the Gospel it is said God is love.

There are four kinds of love. The first is the love that flows from God to man; it consists of the inexhaustible graces, the Divine effulgence and heavenly illumination. Through this love the world of being receives life. Through this love man is endowed with physical existence, until, through the breath of the Holy Spirit—this same love—he receives eternal life and becomes the image of the Living God. This love is the origin of all the love in the world of creation.
The second is the love that flows from man to God. This is faith, attraction to the Divine, enkindlement, progress, entrance into the Kingdom of God, receiving the Bounties of God, illumination with the lights of the Kingdom. This love is the origin of all philanthropy; this love causes the hearts of men to reflect the rays of the Sun of Reality.
The third is the love of God towards the Self or Identity of God. This is the transfiguration of His Beauty, the reflection of Himself in the mirror of His Creation. This is the reality of love, the Ancient Love, the Eternal Love. Through one ray of this Love all other love exists.
The fourth is the love of man for man. The love which exists between the hearts of believers is prompted by the ideal of the unity of spirits. This love is attained through the knowledge of God, so that men see the Divine Love reflected in the heart. Each sees in the other the Beauty of God reflected in the soul, and finding this point of similarity, they are attracted to one another in love. This love will make all men the waves of one sea, this love will make them all the stars of one heaven and the fruits of one tree. This love will bring the realization of true accord, the foundation of real unity.

But the love which sometimes exists between friends is not (true) love, because it is subject to transmutation; this is merely fascination. As the breeze blows, the slender trees yield. If the wind is in the East the tree leans to the West, and if the wind turns to the West the tree leans to the East. This kind of love is originated by the accidental conditions of life. This is not love, it is merely acquaintanceship; it is subject to change.

Today you will see two souls apparently in close friendship; tomorrow all this may be changed. Yesterday they were ready to die for one another, today they shun one another’s society! This is not love; it is the yielding of the hearts to the accidents of life. When that which has caused this ‘love’ to exist passes, the love passes also; this is not in reality love.

Love is only of the four kinds that I have explained. (a) The love of God towards the identity of God. Christ has said God is Love. (b) The love of God for His children—for His servants. (c) The love of man for God and (d) the love of man for man. These four kinds of love originate from God. These are rays from the Sun of Reality; these are the Breathings of the Holy Spirit; these are the Signs of the Reality."

  3. Well, where we might disagree is that I believe the Creator has always sent a Messenger, a special Being, who you could say is God, but not God in essence. These Messengers bring teachings and laws, some of which are Eternal and some that are more social and meant for that culture and stage of development of humankind.

Just as our children in their ignorance and innocence do things that can hurt them, we also as loving parents try to set boundaries and warn our children. We would be terrible parents if we just let our children do as they please.

    As Bahá'u'lláh told a Sufi:

"In all these journeys the traveler must stray not the breadth of a hair from the “Law,” for this is indeed the secret of the “Path” and the fruit of the Tree of “Truth”; and in all these stages he must cling to the robe of obedience to the commandments, and hold fast to the cord of shunning all forbidden things, that he may be nourished from the cup of the Law and informed of the mysteries of Truth."

I believe there have been and always will be Manifestations of God, Messengers who come by God's Will every 500 to 1200 years, but when They appear is in God's hands. All the Messengers have talked about return. Their followers have misinterpreted this in many ways, and denied Them when They did return.

Yes, we were created noble. God created us out of love, out of love for His creation. We also have a lower nature, which isn't bad, God gave it to us, He created us. That lower nature is kind of a thorn in the side as Paul would say. Or Rumi said: "The wound is where the light enters."

There are a lot of laws my parents laid down when I was a kid that I thought were stupid. After a few mistakes, I began to understand them.

"The Laws of God are not imposition of will, or of power, or pleasure, but the resolutions of truth, reason and justice."

The Greatest Light in the world today is Bahá'u'lláh. He is the same Light that shone in Krishna, in Buddha, in Moses, in Abraham, in Muhammad, in Messengers before written history. Yes, there are lights in the world: 60 watt, 100 watt, but none can compare to the Sun of Bahá'u'llah. His mission is to unite the world. We've evolved from family, clan, tribe, nation-building, now is the time for the unification of the entire planet. Bahá'u'lláh's laws and Teachings are for that purpose. "The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens."

Bahá'u'lláh came to mine the gems hidden within us, to polish our mirrors.

As long as there is a creation there will be a Manifestation, world without end.

    Love,
    Billy

  4. Hello my friend Im kinda like Forrest Gump who said:"I may not be a smart man but I know what love is!" Another great post by you friend. You always get me to thinking and as you know thts the only way any of us learn anything. By thinking instead of just accepting what we hear as truth. Your blog is very helpfuland very very interesting.Keep up the great work my friend!!

  5. Namaste my sister Marie. Thank you for your visit and kind words. I love the quote you referred to. May I suggest my favorite book, it's on my bookshelf. Peter O Erbe; " God I Am ". No longer in print but you can get a used copy from ABE books or Amazon for under 10 dollars.

In Lak' esh, my sister, one being one love...

  6. Namaste my dear brother Billy. We see with the same lens however, as expected there are different filters in place. I love the work of the prophet you so often quote. Possibly I am mistaken, I believe the qualm you have with the post is in the suspected inaccuracy portrayed by the concept people know love of each other.

The point of the blog is to highlight what I believe is the fact very few people have any inclination of what love really means. I agree whole heartedly with your assessment of love being unknown or undiscovered by the masses. Truly, as long as an individual sees his brother as separate for self then love is merely a toy to be played with and discarded if it fails to work right. I have been searching to define love for over 30 years, I feel we need a new word for love, lest it remain analogous to desire.

In Lak, ech, my brother Billy, prophet of love, unity and truth...

  7. Namaste my brother Ron. Thank you for your visit and most kind words. I, like you, am blind searching for light while demanding love for all my brothers and sisters.

In Lak' ech, brother Ron, love is all there is, all else is illusion...

  8. dear friend, again, a very inspiring post. thank you for always reminding us of love's true essence--that it is unconditional. we have to be patient though to remove True Love's filters from our hearts and minds. this requires remembrance and this is what your posts always do. if i may, i'd like to quote also the great john lennon in one of his songs -- "love is all we need".

  9. sito, amazing! I just posted this song on my blog the day before your comment here.

Christopher, thank you for the book recommendation. I will add it to my list.

  10. Namaste my brother Sito. Thank you for your visit and kind words. I had to laugh, I often reference the very same Lennon quote. It is undoubtedly one of my favorites.

  11. Namaste brother Christopher. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your post as well as your comments to my post. You are a very enlightened being as far as I'm concerned. I believe you are a lot closer to Gnosis then many a poor soul. Although I may not agree with everything here, I feel that we're all trying to find the same answers and working towards the same goal, to be ready for transformation. I am such an novice to all this compared to yourself. I just rely on my special gifts to tell me what direction I need to go in, and not that that's a bad thing! Between my intuition and my spirit guide, I've made it this far in life (my poor spirit guide must be exhausted)! I need to learn to trust my instincts more and to listen to that ever present voice that tells me to go left, right, forward, etc. Once again dear brother, thank you for your insights and posting then. Once again you are a light in the darkness!
Love, peace and happiness to you my dear friend.
    Ron

  12. Namaste my brother Ron. Thank you for your kind words, although I don't feel deserving of such praise. Like you Ron, I am seeking truth. The more intelligent we become, the more ignorant we find we truly are.

In Lak' ech, my brother, we don't need to agree to share love...
